Singapore Contemporary Art Fair

"journey to the west" by a Chinese artist (credits to LP for supplying these pics)





Amazing aint this sculpture, probably made of fibre glass. somehow it embodies a hint of irony in it. Normally, one wont perceive the characters from the well known chinese legend " journey to the west" as really ugly demons and the highly respected monk as a mere skeleton. however, the artist guided us back to the real legend which existed thousands of years ago; where demons are supposed to be the main characters and they are really that hidious looking. not only that, the monk would have decayed by now after thousands of years, so its skeletal features are the most accurate portrayal. Imagine the horror if you realise fantasies and legends dont actually look so wonderful had they existed in reality.
